چکیده

one iris is disturbed, an anisocoria becomes apparent and very distinct and characteristic changes take place in the responsiveness of the denervated muscle to drugs depending on the location and the completeness of the denervation. Thus it becomes possible to localize parasympathetic lesions by watching the changes in pupil size in response to cholinergically active drugs (i.e. miotics); and sympathetic lesions can be identified by the response of the pupil to adrenergically active drugs (mydriatics). These two tables are designed for ready reference

A Pharmacologic Pupillary Test in the Diagnosis of Diabetic Autonomic Neuropathy

PURPOSE To screen for diabetic autonomic neuropathy of the pupil using 0.5% apraclonidine and 0.1% pilocarpine and to evaluate the early diagnostic value of this pharmacologic pupillary test by assessing the relationship between pupillary and cardiovascular autonomic neuropathies. METHODS A total of 22 diabetic patients were recruited. Baseline pupillary diameter (PD) and the difference in PD...

Tests in contingency tables as regression tests

Applied researchers often use tests based on contingency tables in preliminary data analysis and diagnostic testing. We show that many of such tests may be alternatively implemented by testing for coefficient restrictions in linear regression systems (as a rule, employing the Wald test). This unifies the theories of regression analysis and contingency tables, sheds more light on intuitive conte...

Correlation of a high D-dimer level with poor outcome in traumatic intracranial hemorrhage.

The correlations between D-dimer and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS), pupillary light reflex, distance of midline shift on brain computed tomography (CT), and Glasgow Outcome Score (GOS) in patients with trauma/non-trauma intracranial hemorrhage (ICH) are not consistent in studies. Ninety-eight traumatic and 59 non-traumatic ICH patients were studied. Pre-existing venous thrombosis, recent surgery, dr...

Conditional relative odds ratio and comparison of accuracy of diagnostic tests based on 2 x 2 tables.

In order to evaluate the accuracy of diagnostic tests based on 2 x 2 tables, a number of indices were used, some of which are occasionally used inappropriately. This paper demonstrates the characteristics and problems with those indices, and introduces several methods to compare the accuracy of two diagnostic tests. The author summarizes existing indices based on 2 x 2 tables, agreement rate, k...

Enhancing Diagnostic Accuracy of aMCI in the Elderly: Combination of Olfactory Test, Pupillary Response Test, BDNF Plasma Level, and APOE Genotype

Background. Amnestic Mild Cognitive Impairment (aMCI) often progresses to Alzheimer's disease. There are clinical markers and biomarkers to identify the degenerative process in the brain. Objectives. To obtain the diagnostic values of olfactory test, pupillary response to tropicamide 0.01%, BDNF plasma level, and APOE ε 4 in diagnosing aMCI. Methods. Cross-sectional, comparative analysis. Resul...
